That is one happy looking pooch. Pictured on Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland on a breezy day. That expression says 'not a care in the world as long as I have my yellow ball to play with'. Oh, and somebody to throw it.

For the photography geeks out there, 1/150th @ f5.6, ISO 400.

The West Wing
(Day 90)
I was up on top of the scaffolding today, painting. You get a lovely view of the Campsie Fells from the top out of one of the Velux windows. For more of today's photos hit the jump

Saturday 2 April 2011

This  is how the build looked on March 25th, just over a week ago: not weather-tight yet but it has a roof and sides. The two Velux windows are installed in the roof and some waterproofing (felt) has been applied to make the whole thing water repellent. The felt is actually going to be replaced with breathable membrane which will enable the roof to be tiled without the need for vents. The only additional progress that is visible on the outside today is that breathable membrane has started to appear on the lower part of the timber sides (they will be covered completely eventually).

Day10

Progress on the extension continues although there isn't too much to see with the naked eye at the moment unless you look closely. The retaining wall is largely completed except for the top end. Coping has been applied as can be seen in the panorama photographs That will keep the horses in too :)

Wednesday 23 February 2011

Ten days have passed since the extension build was started and the photo above shows some of the progress made so far. You are looking at a (blurry) completed foundation which was completed yesterday when the DPC, insulation, reinforcing and concrete was laid within the surrounding concrete block walls. The photo is taken from near the top corner of the garden, hence the foreground moss, pergola, fir tree and pile of sandstone blocks.

There is also a big change down the side of the driveway where a retaining wall is being constructed, as can be seen here. There is also a major amount of drainage being dug in below the wall and right down the driveway to get rid of the large amounts of water that flow through that part of the garden. That should hopefully make the new driveway more stable and prevent the hardcore from being washed away or the freezing conditions in winter from heaving the surface up.

There has been a huge difference in the last week when the garden has gone from a representation of The Somme in WW1 to what it looks like now. There is a long way to go but the major excavations and footings are done so with luck the next exciting part, when the timber kit goes up, will happen soon.

With luck the weather will hold and not be too wet or cold so that progress can continue apace. More news as it happens ...

Dubrovnik

Above is a classic view of the Old City part of Dubrovnik, photographed from Mount Srd. I was in Croatia for the first time and didn't really know what to expect. Read more »

Sunset over Craigmaddie Reservoir

Actually, tonight I went over to the local water feature to see if there were any Greylag geese that I could watch and photograph, but I thought that I'd post this sunset instead.
